Students and teachers from Pangasinan will get to experience an event devoted to the science of robotics Dagupan City on November 6 and 7, the Department of Science and Technology said.

DOST Science Education Institute head Dr. Josette Biyo and Dagupan Mayor Belen Hernandez signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the first Dagupan City Robotics Science Fair.

"Robotics is definitely a field that is increasingly becoming vital in our industries that's why we are happy of this move from a local government unit. We are happy to serve the people of Dagupan by bringing the Science Explorer and Tagisang Robotics platforms in the event," Biyo said.

The program seeks to encourage scientific innovation and robotics learning among pupils in Dagupan City and neighboring areas in Pangasinan.

Under the MOA, SEI and the Dagupan City government will organize activities such as robotics exhibits, demo games, training, and water rocket launching competition.

"We're doing this event because we would like to help our schools develop their capability in science and technology especially in robotics. We tapped SEI because they have existing programs on these and we already have a good partnership," said Hernandez/

The winning teams of the 2014 Tagisang Robotics: Design, Build and Play Competition which will be held late in October will showcase their robots during the fair.

A demonstration game will expose Dagupan students to the application of robotics engineering.

Students may also have a chance to control the robots in trial matches while key players in the robotics industry and education will show their products and technology at the Science Fair.

Meanwhile, another highlight is the Robotics Training Program that uses LEGO Mindstorm for elementary and high school students and teachers.

The Science Explorer, SEI's mobile science laboratory, will also visit Dagupan to boost science interest and appreciation among children. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
