THE Department of Health (DOH) yesterday denied on-line reports that there are already confirmed cases of the Ebola virus disease (EVD) in the Philippines.

Acting DOH Secretary Janette Garin said no case of Ebola has entered the Philippines, and that the supposed soucreo f the report, a DOH employee identified as "Gemma Sheridan," does not exist.

"Public health is everybody's concern so each of us must be responsible and should not spread false information that could create panic," said Garin.

In a related development, the DOH disclosed that the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) is already preparing to conduct training on hospital management of Ebola virus disease for Batch 2.

It will be composed of 140 healthcare workers from 21 private institutions,

The first batch was made up of 145 trained healthcare workers from government hospitals.

Despite the appeal of the authorities, only two of more than 800 Filipinos working in Ebola-hit West Africa have so far registered for repatriation.

They will still have to go through the 21-day quarantine upon their arrival. The 126 Filipino workers from West Africa who have returned to the country prior to the voluntary repatriation tested negative for Ebola.
