SIPAG ni Juan: PCAARRD's S&T interventions in aggie, aqua sectors

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), during the celebration of the National Science and Technology Week,  will showcase its innovations in agriculture, aquatic and natural resources that will raise the agri sector's productivity to world-class standards.

PCAARRD will give the media a peep into said innovations at the 2015 NSTW Outcome One Press Conference on July 3, 9AM at Sulo Riviera Hotel, Diliman, Quezon City. The press conference, bearing the theme Strategic Industry Program for Agri-Aqua Growth (SIPAG) ni Juan, will focus on PCAARRD's Industry Strategic S&T Plans (ISPs) on some agri-aqua-natural resources commodities such as banana, goat, Benham rise, mud crab, plant growth promoters, and abaca.

DOST's Outcome One focuses on raising the productivity of the agriculture sector.

DOST Secretary Mario Montejo and DOST Assistant Secretary for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Raymund Liboro will be among the panel of resource persons during the said press conference.

PCAARRD's Acting Executive Director Dr. Reynaldo Ebora will lead the press conference, with other resource persons who will present initiatives in each of the commodities.

Among the resource persons are Dr. Laverne Gueco of University of the Philippines Los Baņos (UPLB)- Institute of Plant Breeding (No More Kundiman for Lakatan); Dr. Ruby Hechanova, Professor at Sultan Kudarat State University (Goat enterprise management - Halal production); Dr. Cesar Villanoy of the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD)- Marine Science Institute(Benham Rise); Dr. Fe Dolores Estepaof the Southeast Asian Fisheries Department Center (SEAFDEC) and National Mud Crab Aquaculture Center (Sa Alimango, Kikita Tayo); Dr. Alumanda dela Rosa, director of DOST-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI)(Plant Growth Promoter); and Dr. Antonio Lalusin, project leader of Crop Science Cluster at UPLB- Institue of Plant Breeding(Abaca commodity).

The Outcome One Press Conference is part of PCAARRD's pre-event activities for the upcoming celebration of DOST's 2015 NSTW to be held at SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City on July 24-28.
