The Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) held a training-workshop on conducting strategic planning for inventors on 03-04 May 2017 at the Kimberly Hotel in Malate, Manila.

The two-day training workshop aimed to equip the inventors in preparing a strategic plan, a crucial material in driving an organization to reach its goals, actions needed in order to achieve those goals, and all of the other critical elements that would help an organization remain a strong player in the market.

Strategic planning can be loosely defined as an organizational management activity and guide that sets the organization's priorities by converging resources and opportunities, strengthening the operations directed through specific and common goals, and assessing the directions of the organization amidst the everchanging and competitive environment.

In the opening remarks of Engr. Edgar I. Garcia, Director of DOST-TAPI, read by Ms. Lilia B. Ferrer, Chief Administrative Officer of DOST-TAPI, he acknowledged the benefit of having a strategic plan in working together and identifying new programs and undeserved markets leading to more products and innovations.

"I understand that your presence, may it be as the head of the inventors' organizations or representatives, contribute so much in our endeavors of thrusting science and technology in the Filipino culture," he added.

The training-workshop's content has four parts which dealt with facilitation skills, foundations of strategic planning, facilitating strategic planning, and strategic management.

A total of 20 presidents, representatives, and members of various innovators' organizations from all over the country attended the training-workshop.

The event has enabled inventors in understanding the necessary skills in crafting an effective strategic plan, assessing and analyzing the internal and external factors that affect the operations of businesses, and formulating strategies tailor-fit to their needs.
