DOST-TAPI training-workshop becomes a venue for inventors' resolutions

Resolutions by United Filipino Inventions and Innovators for the Advancement and Promotion of Invention and Innovation in the Philippines on 03-04 May 2017 at the Hotel Kimberly in Malate, Manila

Initially aimed to equip investors in preparing a strategic plan, The Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI)'s training-workshop on conducting strategic planning for investors on 03-04 May 2017 at the Kimberly Hotel in Malate, Manila became a venue for inventors and innovations in creating a series of resolutions.

The said resolutions were dubbed as, "Resolutions by United Filipino Inventions and Innovators for the Advancement and Promotion of Invention and Innovation in the Philippines".

This would benefit all Filipino inventors through the promotion of the advancement of inventions and innovations as a mean in pushing social and economic development intending to elevate the quality of life of every Filipino.

Signed by 20 inventors, presidents and representatives of inventors' organizations, the resolutions included the support of invention leaders to the House Bill 928 and agreement of different inventors' organization in the Philippines.

Moreover, the full implementation of the Republic Act (RA) 7459 and that invention contests must be judged separately for inventors within the private and government sectors were also part of the resolutions.

RA 7459 or the Investors and Invention Incentives Act of the Philippines is an act providing incentives to Filipino inventors and expanding the functions of the TAPI, appropriating funds therefor, and other purposes.

Specifically, the RA 7459 contains the annual inventors' week celebration, tax exemptions for inventors, free patent application, financial assistance for commercialization and marketing of inventions, and simplified requirements to avail inventor benefits.

The resolutions were sent to the DOST Secretary Fortunato T. De La Peņa for information.
