A staffer from the Department of Science and Technology turns over the digital kiosk to a farmers' cooperative in Cebu.

Launched last August 3, the digital kiosk — called the "Science & Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosk System" or STARBOOKS — was installed at the South Bus Terminal building office of the Cebu People's Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

It will be the first time STARBOOKS will be used for livelihood purposes, the Department of Science and Technology's Region 7 office said in a statement.

The installation as well as the provision of the kiosk was the result of a partnership between the cooperative and the government. The facility is expected to provide useful information that would help farmers' enhance their incomes and livelihoods.

More than 150 such kiosks have been installed in different schools in the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor have been installed by the DOST, it said in a statement.

Members of the Cebu People's Multi-Purpose cooperative attend an orientation on how to use STARBOOKS.

STARBOOKS is DOST's nation-wide project aimed at making S&T information accessible and available to our citizens especially those in the countryside.

This self-contained computer system serves as a one stop shop digital compendium of S&T information gathered from local and foreign sources.

These repositories for science and technology and livelihood information can also be digitally accessed by users offline.
