Pursuant to Republic Act No. 10535 or the Philippine Standard Time (PST) Act of 2013, the Department of Science and Technology in Region 1 (DOST 1), together with the local government of Alaminos City, Pangasinan officially switch on the Philippine Standard Time device at Alaminos City Hall on September 18, 2018.

The PhST, one of the advocacies of DOST known as Juan Time aimed to synchronize time nationwide and likewise an information campaign about the value of time and the need to respect the time of others.

The law requires all national and local government offices to display PhST devices in accordance with the official time provided by the DOST's Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) through its network time protocol. Additionally, it institutionalized the celebration of National Time Consciousness Week every first week of the year.

The ceremonial switching was done alongside the opening ceremonies of the 2018 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) celebration at the Don Leopoldo Sison Convention Center in Alaminos City, Pangasinan.
