Entreps get funding assistance approval from DOST for biz enhancement

DUMAGUETE CITY, May 24 (PIA)--Four Negros Oriental entrepreneurs got the approval of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on their request for funding assistance for the purchase of equipment needed for the enhancement of their respective businesses.

Entrepreneurs Imelda Siñagan of EM’s Dress Shop, Hazel Lynn P. Asignar of Ninang’s Kitchen, Virgilio B. Anqui, Jr. of VL Motor Parts and Atty. Anna Pris Pareja of Rockland Farm Ltd. Company pitched their project proposals before the members of the Regional Technical Evaluation Committee (RTEC) of DOST - 7 during the RTEC en banc session held in Siquijor island recently.

The presentation of project proposals before the RTEC is one of the steps in availing DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), an intervention to help Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) boost their production and competitiveness through different strategies which include provision of technology.

DOST - Negros Oriental Provincial Director Gilbert Arbon and Science Research Specialist Engr. Reinhold Jek Abing guided the entrepreneurs in defending their project proposals before the members of the committee.

Engr. Abing disclosed these proposals have a combined worth amounting to P4 million.

Siñagan requested for technology upgrading for embroidered apparel while Asignar proposed for also request for technology upgrading for the efficient production of bagoong, peanut butter and chilli sauce.

On the other hand, Anqui requested for a motor reboring technology while Lawyer Anna Priscilla M. Pareja wishes to acquire basic farming machineries and efficient greenhouse farming technologies.

“The DOST - 7 RTEC initially approved their project proposals.

The clients now need to submit their revised proposals incorporating recommendations and answers to questions from said evaluators,” Abing said.

“Once finally approved, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) will be drafted and signed by the parties from the proponent, DOST NegOr and DOST VII. It will then be notarized.

After that, DOST will turn over the amount approved which the proponent will use according the conditions as stipulated in the notarized MOA like the acquisition of the processing equipment, among other things,” he elaborated.

In return, the four entrepreneurs will have to hand over 36 post-dated checks to DOST as monthly payment of the technological assistance.

The RTEC panel was composed of DOST - 7 Supervising Science Research Specialist Engr. Samuel Parcon and external evaluators composed of Engr. Van Gaitano Vergara, Lourdes Damazo and Ruby Salutan. (ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental/with reports from DOST-NegOr)
