Eastern Visayas celebrates 2019 Regional S&T Week

PALO, Leyte, Aug. 9 -- The Department of Science and Technology-Regional Office 8 (DOST-8) will be staging the 2019 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) celebration to fulfill its commitment in coordinating the countryís scientific and technological efforts toward maximum economic and social benefits.

The 2019 RSTW will be held in conjunction with the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit 2019 (RICE 2019).

DOST-8 Regional Director Edgardo Esperancilla is inviting everyone to participate in the three-day 2019 RSTW celebration to be held at the Robinsonís Place, Marasbaras, Tacloban City on August 9 to 11.

On the first day (August 9), †the DOST-8 office at the Government Center, Candahug, Palo, Leyte will open its doors to the public from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Housewives from DOST-8 service community (Pawing area) will participate in a Meat Processing Training in the morning, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

In the afternoon, out-of-school youths from DOST-8 service community (also in Pawing area) will attend the Fish Processing Training from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The open house of DOST-8 office will run from the first day until the last day of RSTW.

Meanwhile, S&T exhibits and inventions will be open to the public on August 9 at the Robinsonís Mall New Building Activity Area from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Micro, small, and medium enterprises, local government units (LGUs), partner agencies, local businessmen and chambers are expected to attend in the 2019 Community-Based Projects Summit cum Eastern Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (EVHRDC) Dissemination Forum at the same venue from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

There will also be a forum on Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology where public offices, LGUs, state universities and colleges (SUCs), and other private and government partner agencies are invited to participate from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

DOST Secretary Fortunato de la PeŮa will grace the 2019 RSTW Opening Ceremonies and RICE 2019 Ribbon Cutting scheduled on the second day (August 10) at the Robinsonís Mall New Building Activity Area from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

A SETUP Forum will follow from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the same venue.

The public can view the S&T exhibits and inventions at the venue from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In the evening (5 p.m.-10 p.m.), DOST scholars, DOST officials, VIPs from LGU, SUCs, NGOs, and the media will convene at the Summit Hotel in Tacloban City for ďIn Touch with Excellence,Ē an event in honor of the excellent performance of DOST scholars.

On the last day of 2019 RSTW (August 11), DOST scholars in their third, fourth, and fifth years will participate in the Entrepreneurial Seminar for DOST VIII-SEI Scholars from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

As a culminating activity, RICE winners will be awarded at the closing ceremonies at the Robinsonís Mall New Building Activity Area from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. (DOST-8)
