Dumaguete City (March 9, 2020) – Four entrepreneurs from Negros Oriental pitch their project proposals amounting to a total of more than Php2,000,000.00 and secured initial approval from the Department of Science and Technology VII (DOST VII) for intent to avail the agency’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) during the en banc. It was held at the Provincial Science and Technology Center of DOST Negros Oriental on March 5-6, 2020.

Ms. Maria Delgie C. Pepino of Delg Chorizo and Homemade Food Retailing, Mr. Tedoro Duhaylungsod and group of Nangka Agrarian Reform Farmers Cooperative (NARFACO), Ms. Leonida Martinez and staff of Cassy and Hannah Store, Mr. Roberto Gemina Jr. of RAJEY Furniture and Mr. Jovencio Ba-ay of JAB Handy Craft presented their project proposals before the DOST VII Regional Technical Evaluation Committee.

The RTEC panel was composed of DOST VII Assistant Regional Director Engr. Jesus F. Zamora, Jr., Supervising Science Research Specialist Engr. Samuel A. Parcon and two external evaluators Ms. Lourdes Damazo of International Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (IPI) Foundation and Ms. Ruby Salutan of Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation, (CFIF) Inc.

Ms. Pepino of Delg Chorizo and Homemade Food Retailing in Canlaon City pitched her project proposal on upgrading her meat processing technologies. On the other hand, Mr. Duhaylungsod and company of NARFACO in Bayawan City proposed an upgrading on rice drying and rice milling technologies.

Mr. Gemina Jr. of Rajey Furniture in Tanjay City presented his project proposal on upgrading his furniture-making technologies. Mr. Ba-ay of JAB Handy Craft in Amlan defended his project proposal on upgrading his processing technologies on bamboo GDH.

The DOST VII RTEC endorsed their project proposals for approval and funding subject pending submission of final proposals incorporating revisions as recommended by the panel.

Once finally approved, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) will be drafted and signed by the proponent, DOST Negros Oriental and DOST VII.

DOST VII through DOST Negros Oriental will then turnover the assistance to the proponents guided by the conditions stated in the notarized MOA.

To note, DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program is a nationwide strategy encouraging and assisting micro, small and medium enterprises to adopt technological innovations to improve their products, services, operations and increase their productivity and competitiveness.
