ISABELA STATE UNIVERSITY TOPS IP COMPETION DURING FIRST EVER R&D CARAVAN, GETS 500K WORTH OF PROJECTS FROM DOST 02

May 28, 2021 – The Isabela State University (ISU), one of the five state universities in Region 02 topped the recent DOST 02 competition on the highest number of Intellectual Property (IP) applications filed during the first ever Research and Development Caravan.

The competition was led by DOST 02, the prime initiator of the two-week event to spur interest in intellectual property by all participating universities, schools and various institutions. DOST Region 02 awarded P500,000 worth of projects to ISU for this purpose.

Members of DOST 02’s R&D Innovation Management Unit or ReDim Team conducted on-site evaluations of research proposals from the different SUCs. They were also accompanied by Engr. Eric Paden and Engr. Manny Mendoza, personnel from IPOPHL. These research proposals were either for patent, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, or copyright claims.

All in all, ISU submitted 100 Patents, 163 Utility Models, 23 Industrial Designs, 62 Trademarks, and 308 Copyrights, totaling to 656 submissions.

Garnering 2nd place was Quirino State University with a total of 79 Utility Models and 93 Copyrights, with a total of 172 Submissions. Lastly, Cagayan State University placed 3rd with 81 Utility Models, 7 Trademarks, and 80 Copyrights, totaling to 168 submissions.

Other participants include Nueva Vizcaya State University, Batanes State Colleges, Cagayan National High School, Linao National High School, Lemu National High School, St. Mary’s University, and Nueva Vizcaya General High School.

The awarding ceremony was held during the first ever Regional R&D Caravan’s closing program which was broadcasted on Facebook Live. 2,160 people watched the said broadcast. (Hannah Mallillin, DOST 02 S&T PEN)
