State weather bureau PAGASA raised a yellow warning signal over Metro Manila due to expected rains from the southwest monsoon.

In an advisory issused at 1:45 p.m., PAGASA said heavy rainfall of 8 to 15 millimeters per hour was observed in Metro Manila over the past hour.

Moderate to heavy rains (5 to 15 mm per hour) are expected within the next two hours.

Intense rainfall of 16 to 20 mm per hour may also occur occasionally.

PAGASA advised residents in low-lying areas for possible flooding.

Just before noon, PAGASA terminated all its alert warnings as rainfall slightly eased. The decision to terminate the issuance of rain warnings was arrived at due to the landfall of tropical storm “Haikui” over eastern China earlier this morning.

The storm was blamed for enhancing the southwest monsoon on the country’s western side.

However, the persistent monsoon rains prompted weather forecasters to issue a new rainfall warning.

Flood waters have also subsided in most areas in Metro Manila but rescue and relief efforts are still needed in parts of Talayan and Araneta Avenue in Quezon City, portions of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Marikina, Rizal and nearby areas.

A state of calamity is still in place in Laguna, Bataan, Pampanga, and Zambales.
