Flood Management framework in Davao to be developed

01 ICHARM visits Central 911 Office

Officials from ICHARM together with Dr. Anthony C. Sales of DOST XI visited the Central 911 Office. The head of the office, Mr. Emmanuel Jaldon, was also present to provide the group an overview of the programs and activities on disaster risk reduction and management.

Flood Management experts from the International Flood Initiative of International Center for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM) visited Davao City on March 10 & 11, 2017 for a coordination meeting and project tour.

The meeting which was also attended by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-Philippines, DOST Region XI, and DPWH Region XI aimed at developing a flood management framework for Davao City. Factors of the Grand Design on Water in Davao City were also discussed during the meeting, namely: health, water, and energy. The outputs of the meeting will be consolidated and submitted for another round of meeting in Chengdu, China on May 2017. And on September 2017, the framework will be presented to the UN General Assembly. 

02 ICHARM visits Mintal Bridge

Aside from having a closer view of Tamugan River, the group also went to Mintal Bridge to check one of the automated rain gauges installed by DOST XI all over the region.

Participants of the meeting together with HELP Davao Network members visited the different agencies related to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for a Project Tour. Agencies visited were the Central 911 Office, PAG-ASA Station, Public Safety and Command Center, UP Mindanao LiDAR 1, Brgy. 10-A Community Learning Center, Brgy. Maa, and Mintal Bridge, where one of the Automated Rain Gauges was installed by the DOST XI.

The Flood Management Framework to be developed is in line with the United Nations' International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development" 2018-2028, which will start on March 22, 2018. The objective of this framework is greater focus on the sustainable development and integrated management of water resources.
