DOST Siquijor grants DepED P0.25M as grant-in-aid project for STARBOOKS

SIQUIJOR, March 14 (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) here turned over another P250,000 to the Department of Education (DepEd) Division Siquijor as Grant-in-Aid (GIA) Project.

The turnover ceremony took place at the Division Office of DepED Siquijor in Helen, Larena, Siquijor.

Provincial Science and Technology Director Engr. Mario E. De la Peņa handed over the check to Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ronald G. Gutay which was witnessed by some of its officials and staff.

Dr. Gutay said he is thankful to DOST for yet another assistance it has extended to the agency.

DepED-Siquijor is a recipient of another GIA Project  for a STARBOOKS unit in each of the five identified secondary high schools in the province namely, Banban National High School, San Antonio National High School, Catulayan National High School, Candaping National High School, and Basac National High School.

It has previously availed of the STARBOOKS for Cang-alwang National High School, Tambisan National High School, Campalanas National High School, and Lazi National Agricultural School.

STARBOOKS, also known as Science and Technology Academic Research-based Openly Operated Kiosk Station, was the first Philippine Science Digital Library.

STARBOOKS units require no internet connection in order to access a vast amount of science and technology-related information.

The digital library contains livelihood videos, disaster mitigation, educational videos, library materials, interactive math and courseware used by teachers, educational videos, technologies, and publications. Developed by the DOST Science and Technology Information Institute, it has received numerous awards and recognition from different award giving bodies both here and abroad.

Other locations of STARBOOKS in the province include Quezon Memorial Institute of Siquijor, Siquijor Provincial Science High School, LGU San Juan Tourism Office in Capilay Spring Park, Maria Central Elementary School, Enrique Villanueva National High School and Siquijor State College.
