The Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute's (DOST-SEI) scholarship program does not only produce scholar graduates, but scholars who graduate with top academic honors in their respective institutions. To recognize the outstanding feat of scholar graduates (BS and MS graduates with honors in the National Capital Region and PhD graduates) for AY 2017-2018,DOST-SEI will honor them in a special recognition program dubbed  "In Touch with Excellence."

The ceremony will be held on 18 July 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Meeting Room 1 of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City. Some 400 guests are expected to attend.

The DOST-SEI scholarship program covers 1,609 or 97 percent of the country's total number of municipalities and congressional districts, a slight increase from 1,568 in 2015.

Last year's nationwide qualifying examination held on October 15, 2017 in 216 test centers recorded 8,994 qualifiers, the biggest so far. Out of this, some 5,172 are under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program, and 3,822 qualified under the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program.

"It's not all about financial assistance," says Vina R. Antopina, assistant provincial S&T director of  DOST-Bohol, when asked about the concerns in handling the scholarship program.

She added, "There are scholars who need guidance. They need someone to hand-hold them while they are pursuing their dreams, somebody who can teach them about the intricacies of life and make them realize that being good is not confined to having high scholastic marks alone."

Most scholars come from poor families and they tend to share what they have, big or small, with their respective families.
