June 11, 2018 Despite the rains, people gathered at the Guanella Center Inc. compound in Quezon City for the ceremonial turnover and launching of the Modified Therapeutic Handlooms which was led by Regional Director Jose B. Patalinjug III of the Department of Science and Technology – National Capital Region (DOST-NCR), together with Director Celia B. Elumba of DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI).  DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña was the special guest at the event.

Guanella Center Inc. is a non-profit organization run by the Servants of Charity, whose mission is to provide the poor and disabled charitable services and assistance such as: nutrition and learning programs for indigent children; offer health care services for indigent families; shelter and rehabilitation/special education for persons with disabilities; skills training/livelihood programs; and promote values and religious formation programs.

DOST-NCR's own SETUP adoptor, Danilyn's Enterprises Inc. was mobilized to manufacture the needed equipment for the handlooms. Danilyn's Enterprises Inc. fabricated 10 handlooms and these were turned over to Guanella Center Inc., a testament to how much can be done through the effective collaboration between the government and the private sector and the best example of Science for the People.
