NegOr gets a glimpse of Industry 4.0, DX thru symposium

Dumaguete City Participants got a unique view of what are Industry 4.0 and Digital Transformation (DX) from the perspective of leaders in the government, private sector and the academe through a symposium held recently here in the City of Gentle People.

More than 200 participants attended the said activity with representatives coming from different colleges and universities in the province, officials from national government agencies, and representatives from the healthcare sector, transportation and logistics sector, local government units, banking and finance sector, BPO and ICT sector, and the local media.

"The symposium is basically an event for the sharing of relevant information, insights, and ideas. Experts from the  private sector, government and academe will present factual information and share their views and insights regarding Industry 4.0 and digital transformation," said Atty. Gilbert R. Arbon, Provincial S&T Director of DOST Negros Oriental.

Resource persons were Ms. Ma. Elena C. Arbon, Assistant Regional Director of DTI Region 7; Mr. Mark Mistal, Chief Information Officer of SPi CRM; Mr. Adolf Andringa, Consultant of Foundation University; Mr. Rene S. Medrocillo, Jr., Didactic Manager of FESTO Inc.; and Engr. Frederick D. Amores, Director of DICT Visayas Cluster 2.

Presentations included "Industry 4.0: Fab labs to Startups", "Digital Transformation (DX)", "Plugging into Maker Culture to Transform our Schools", "Making Factories Smarter: The FESTO Experience", and "DICT Programs to Support Industry 4.0 and Digital Transformation".

The event was organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) here in Negros Oriental in partnership with the DOST Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST PCIEERD), Silliman University and in cooperation with FESTO, SPi CRM, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Foundation University.

The speakers all echoed the same sentiment that industry 4.0 and digital transformation will surely disrupt the traditional and conventional ways of doing business and that disruption will also create opportunities.

The symposium is expected to generate or increase public awareness of the current and potential disruptive changes due to technological innovations; to enhance the understanding among stakeholders in the government, academe, industry and civil society; to stimulate dialogue, cooperation and collaboration among said stakeholders in addressing issues and concerns engendered by these changes; and to jumpstart the growth of local community of creative, inventive and entrepreneurial people by providing them inspiration and networking opportunities.
