The DOST XI presented the following agency's initiatives in Disaster Risk Reduction Management:

1.  Deployment of Early Warning System (DEWS) - The project involves installation of hydrometeorological devices (hydromets) such as Automated Rain Gauge (ARG) and Water Level Monitoring Station (WLMS) in different river systems. To complement these systems of hydrometeorological devices, an early warning system composed of sirens or beacons will be installed in communities affected by floods.

2.  PHL-Microsat - The PHL Microsat Program aims to build, launch and effectively utilize micro-satellite technology for multispectral, high precision earth observation.

3.  Davao-Ground Receiving Station The DOST will be able to download images from Diwata and other satellites subscribed by the agency through this facility.

4.  Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) - The PhiLiDAR project is an expansion project of the Disaster Risks Exposure and Assessment for Mitigation program which aims to determine the feasibility of establishing solar and wind farms in select areas of the country based on the data and information obtained through LiDAR technology.

5.  Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS) - A software designed by the DOST-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology that produces Seismic Hazard Maps (Ground Shaking, Liquefaction, Earthquake-induced landslides and Tsunami), Exposure Database and Risk Assessment Information.

6.  Fault Tracer/Finder This is a web-based online application developed by the DOST-PHIVOLCS which can determine the location of active faults and locates the nearest active fault from a specified location or the named barangay.

7.  Vertical Helophyte - The Vertical Helophyte Filter System is a low-cost, nature based secondary wastewater treatment system.

8.  HELP Davao Network Programs - HELP Davao is a network of individuals, groups, and institutions working for a sensible and sustainable use of water resources in Davao City.

Engr. Cristy Gallano of the HELP Davao Network, presented the different programs of the HELP Davao Network. Afterwhich, Dr.  Joseph Acosta and the GEOSAFER Mindanao team presented the LiDAR technology used by DREAM, LiDAR and GeoSAFER. Participants were also given the chance to view the actual maps of the said technology.

This activity aims to impart the importance of technology as an adaptive capability of DRRM practitioners and Disaster Risk Management best practices of the agency.
