SOCCSKSARGEN, Mindanao – The Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) expanded the conduct of the Invent School Program (ISP) on 17-18 and 20-21 September 2018 in the University of Southern Mindanao, North Cotabato and Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat, respectively.

ISP is one of the premier programs of DOST-TAPI in propagating the necessary interests, skills, and capacities for creativeness and inventiveness among elementary, high school, and college students.

The Program serves as a starting ground for young Filipino inventors to stimulate their potentials and awaken their ingenuity in invention and innovation development.

"Our goal is to bring ISP all over the Philippines to bring creative, perceptive, and inventive thinking closer to the Filipino youth," said Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, Division Chief of the Invention Development Division of DOST-TAPI.

"It may be challenging to reach places such as Tawi-Tawi in March and now North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat but we are more than overwhelmed with the experience believing that innovation and creativity can spring up in this part of the country," added Decena.

In close collaboration with DOST SOCCSKSARGEN, ISP conducted the first leg for college students in North Cotabato while the second leg was conducted for high school students in Sultan Kudarat.

"I hope that DOST-TAPI conducts more programs in the region especially programs such as ISP to make students aware of such topics not usually included in the basic curriculum such as Intellectual Property Rights, prototype development, and commercialization of inventions," said Szalinah S. Mercado, DOST Provincial Science and Technology Director of Sultan Kudarat.

Engr. Elizabeth I. Garcia and Ms. Anna Liza B. Saet from DOST-TAPI served as resource speakers in the ISP seminar-workshop.

"ISP is always ready to serve as a platform in molding our future leaders in science, technology, and innovation, and that our initiatives could impact the greatness of our nation in both economic and social progress," said Saet.

DOST SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Director Zenaida P. Hadji Raof-Laidan positively supports the notion that science need not always be too serious as a subject matter and that there is essentially fun in learning, working, and exploring science.

"We acknowledge the shared fact that the younger generations are the hope of our nation, to which we look forward on to significant contributions the students of today may bring about tomorrow," emphasized Hadji Raof-Laidan.
