NEW DOST FIELD OFFICE TO OPERATE IN CANDON CITY

Science and technology programs and services are now closer for the 2 nd District of Ilocos Sur as the Department of Science and Technology Region 1 (DOST 1) through its Provincial Science and Technology Center in Ilocos Sur (PSTC-IS) inaugurates its new field office situated at the 2nd Floor of the Candon Trade Center in Candon City, Ilocos Sur on March 19, 2019.

 The new PSTC-IS field office is a joint initiative with the office of CongressmanEric D. Singson, and City Government of Candon headed by Mayor Ericson G.Singson. The facility aimed to cater the 22 municipalities and one city in thesecond district, which are mostly situated in the highlands of the province and farfrom Tamag, Vigan, Ilocos Sur where the PSTC-IS office is located.

The DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations, Brenda L. Nazareth-Manzano expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the local government of the City of Candon, Ilocos Sur. She added that, “Our battle cry is bringing science closer to the people and this field office in Candon City is a testament that we want ourservices to be more accessible to the people of the 2 nd District of Ilocos Sur”.

Mayor Ericson G. Singson underscored that the DOST field office is a significantinitiative that will provide more benefits to the people and will contribute to themaintenance of Candon as the center of government services in the 2 nd District.Furthermore, the City Administrator, Grace G. Singson is also looking forward toenhancing and developing more products from the town’s resources, such as thekornik, kalamay, and development of tobacco.

Dr. Armando Q. Ganal, Director of DOST Region 1 encouraged the academe touse the opportunity to expose themselves to technology transfer and to researchand development endeavors, as he vows to increase the reach of S&T services in the district.

The recently launched field office will be operated and managed by DOST 1through the PSTC-IS while the LGUs will be providing two technical staff who willbe coordinating all S&T concerns in the area.
