The event is a joint efforts of the Rice Board (RB) and Department of Agriculture(DA) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rice Institute (DA-PhilRice) , Provincial Government of Pangasinan and Local Government Units of Asingan and Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.
The National Rice Technology Forum aims to promote the use of Hybrid Rice technology in the country and to adopt the different rice planting methods such as Manual and Mechanical Transplanting and Direct seeding. And for the first time, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) participated in the National Rice Technology Forum for the introduction of new technology for Rice through the use of Carrageenan Plant Growth Promoter. Carrageenan PGP is developed by the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology which is extracted from seaweeds locally known as ‘Kanot-Kanot or Ruprupuok’ in Ilocano and subjected to irradiation which can increase the yield , enhanced growth and induced pest and diseases in rice.
Participants to the 8th NRTF are Agri-Seed Companies namely; Advanta, Aljay, Bayer Crop Science, Corteva, Bioseed, Seedworks, Longping, Syngenta, Pioneer, SL AgriTech Corporation, Philrice, PhilSCAT, System Rice Intensification (SRI), YARA and DOST RO I. Demonstrations farms were established in a 37.5 hectares with 85 farmer cooperators who utilized various rice technologies.
The field day of 8“Increase Rice Production Through Hybrid Rice Technology” was held on March 20-22, 2019 with more or less 3,000 farmers from Regions 1 to 13, CAR and ARMM attended the 3-day activity.
