MANILA, Philippines The highest temperature in the country this dry season was recorded in Isabela City on April 10, 2019 at 38.7C.

Meanwhile, the highest recorded heat index was experienced in Dagupan City on April 9, 2019 at 51.7C.

State weather bureau Pagasa emphasized that they hold responsibility to official data released by their office.

Therefore, the agency advised the public to be extra careful in accepting information that comes from unknown, unreliable sources.

On April 12, netizens expressed concern when a social media account of a certain Philippine Weather Foundation posted a heat index in Dumarao, Capiz that reached 65.1C.

In response to the post, Pagasa debunked such information.

In terms of maximum temperature naman doon sa may area na iyon na malapit sa Capiz, ang pinakamalapit is Roxas City at nakapagtala tayo doon ng 32C lamang na maximum temperature at ang heat index niya is equivalent to 40C. So napakalayo doon sa 65 degrees (celcius) na sinasabi nilang record breaking, explained DOST-Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja.

(In terms of maximum temperature in that area near Capiz, the nearest is Roxas City where we have recorded a maximum temperature of 32C which heat index equivalent to 40C. Thats way far from 65 degrees which they claim as record breaking.)

The weather agency also explained that despite the rising temperature, there is only a slim chance that the country may experience excessively hot weather that could lead to heat waves.

According to Pagasa, the Philippines being a tropical country is different in location and form of landmass as compared to countries that are experiencing such a phenomenon like the United States and Australia.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) further explains that heat waves occur only when the temperature exceeds 5C than the normal-highest temperature in a specific area and stays throughout the succeeding five days.

When heat waves happen, the common consequence is the rise in incidence of heat strokes or deaths.

But Pagasa said this is less likely to happen in the Philippines.

But in the Philippines since surrounded tayo ng tubig, mababa ang tsansa na magkaroon ng heat wave or yung tuloy-tuloy na sobrang init talaga na maximum temperature, Esteraja concluded.
