WEATHER STATION IN SUGPON, ILOCOS SUR

One for All, All for One. DOST1 Staff and the Local Government Unit of Sugpon, Ilocos Sur joined force in the installation of the Weather Station.

“On behalf of the Local Government Unit of Sugpon, we are thankful for this DRRM intervention – weather station because this is one of the requirement/criteria under Disaster Preparedness for us to pass the Seal of Good Local Governance, and it is also helpful in informing the flood prone areas of municipality when there is typhoon.”

This is what Mr. Raymond M. Latong, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (LDRRMO) II, have to say during the Installation and Demo-Operation of the Weather Station held on March 26, 2019 at the Municipality of Sugpon, Ilocos Sur.

The said activity is part of the S&T intervention of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program under the project entitled NaKaSaGaNa of the priority area - Hazard Mitigation and Climate Change Adaptation (HM/CCA). Also, it aimed at equipping the LDRRMO of Sugpon, Ilocos Sur to be disaster prepared and resilient.    

Project NaKaSaGana or “Naglilinang ng Kahandaan sa Sakuna Gamit ang Napapanahong-Teknolohiya” is a package of intervention in HM/CCA which includes trainings or information dissemination campaigns, installation and maintenance of early warning devices among others.

The installed weather station will generate data on temperature, humidity, wind direction and speed, and rainfall amounts.

Mr. Raymond Ardee F. Soriano, Computer Maintenance Technologist I and the alternate DRRM Focal Person of DOST-RO1 serves as the resource person. His discussion focused on the familiarization of the parts and functions of the weather station and demonstration on how it works.

The installation and demo-operation is organized and conducted by the DOST-RO1 through its CEST Program. It was attended by eight staff and volunteers of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) – Sugpon, Ilocos Sur. Morning session was dedicated to lecture and demo-operation while in the afternoon was set for the installation of the weather station.
