As an advocate of education transformation in Ilocos Norte, Schools Division Superintendent Vilma Eda has urged schools’ heads to strengthen their partnerships with public and private stakeholders to push for the development of young learners.

Like what happened in a small community of Burgos town, the Burgos Agro Industrial School and the Burgos Central School are now equipped with at least two modern and spacious classrooms complete with high-tech gadgets to catch up with the needs of today’s digital learners.

“Our salute to the municipal government of Burgos for prioritizing education. I know they sacrificed some projects just to have this project. May this inspire all of us to level up and we wish Burgos more progress in the future,” she said.

Eda said they are in talks with other partner agencies and local government units to help in the construction of more 21st century classrooms in the province.

As host to the largest wind farm in Southeast Asia, the small town of Burgos led by town mayor Rodolfo Garcia has funded the construction of two modern classrooms in the municipality worth about PHP8 million.

The amount came from the municipality’s share in special education fund (SEF) tax, a one-percent levy on the assessed value of real properties.

In time for the opening of classes on June 3, Burgos town students will now have a feel of what it is like to study in a 21st century learning environmental model.

Inside the two air-conditioned classrooms which are twice larger than a traditional classroom are four computer kiosks and personal computer desktops, 50 tablets, robotic kits, 10 units mini drones, 3D filament, 3D printer, interactive projectors, visualizer/document camera, knex build model, wi-fi connections, augmented reality check, wi-fi printer, and connectors.

“This is how we value education in Burgos. We love our children and we do not want them to be left behind,” said Garcia, 79, the oldest mayor in Ilocos Norte and the first mayor in the province who approved the utilization of the town’s SEF for the construction of the pioneering modern classroom in Region 1.(PNA)
