DOST turns-over STARBOOKS to 9 Kalinga schools

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga Oct 30 (PIA) -- Nine more schools in the province are recipients of   the Science and Technology Academic and Research- Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station (STASRBOOKS) from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The five   schools under the Kalinga Schools Division are the Western Kalinga National High School (NHS) of Balbalan Municipality, Baclayan Elementary School (ES) in Tanudan, Southern Tinglayan National High School in Tinglayan, Rizal National School of Arts and Trade of Rizal and Lubuagan Senior High School in Lubuagan.

The other four schools under Tabuk City Schools Division are Cudal NHS, Gobgob ES, Kalinga NHS and Bulo NHS.

Since the start of the program in 2015, there are now 29 schools in the province that are beneficiaries of the digitized library.  

DOST-CAR Regional Director Nancy Bantog, who led the turn-over, said the STARBOOKs program promotes capability building towards increased appreciation of science and technology and innovation culture

The STARBOOKS contains software on livelihood videos, disaster mitigation, educational videos, library material, DOST documentaries, interactive science-math course, DOST technology, publications, encyclopedia, Philippine women and men and K-12 material.

Since the facility does not depend on internet access, it is recommended to areas in the country like the Cordillera where there is problem on internet connectivity, she said.

For schools situated in barangays with no power supply, DOST also provides solar-powered sets to support use of the facility.   

Kalinga Schools Division Superintendent Amador Garcia, in his acceptance talk, vowed to maximize utilization of the research material citing its great contribution to science and math education.

Tabuk City Schools Division Superintendent Irene Angway meanwhile assured they would closely monitor use and maintenance of the facility to ensure assure students would benefit from it. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
