DOST and DepEd inaugurate Pisay ZamPen's new infra projects

QUEZON CITY, Dec. 18—Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Peña together with Department of Education(DepEd) Secretary Leonor M. Briones, led the inauguration of the infrastructure projects for the Philippine Science High School - ZRC Dipolog - Zamboanga Peninsula Region Campus (PSHS-ZPRC) in Barangay Cogon, Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte on 13 December.

Secretary de la Peña expressed his gratitude to the Department of Education for being a partner in providing science and technology education in the country. The Science chief also congratulates the PSHS for its continued quest to provide quality science and technology education in the regions, for its aim of setting up world-class facilities, and for investing in capital outlay projects at PSHS-ZPRC which will benefit the youth of Zamboanga Peninsula Region. The DOST and DepEd’s collaboration aim to achieve world-class science and technology education in the country.

The PSHS-ZPRC is the 16th campus of the Philippine Science High School System. The campus is temporarily located inside Dipolog Sports Complex, Barangay Olingan in Dipolog while the construction of the new PSHS-ZPRC facility in Barangay Cogon is still ongoing.

Among the infrastructure projects inaugurated were the construction of the Academic Building I, Perimeter Fence and guard House, Dormitory Buildings I and II, Cafeteria and Students’ Activity Center, Power House, and Sit Developments Phases I and III.

The inauguration was also attended by Zamboanga del Norte Governor Roberto Uy, Dipolog City Mayor Darel Dexter Uy, ZN 2nd District Representative Glona Labadlabad, and former Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn Uy.

The PSHS-ZPRC is established based on the resolution adopted by the DOST’s Philippine Science High School System Board of Trustees based on Republic Act No. 8496, which mandates the establishment of a PSHS campus in each of the region in the country.(DOST)
