The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) leads the celebration of the Philippine Tropical Fabrics Month this January. The highlight of this month-long celebration is the Textile Stakeholders’ Conference dubbed as, TELA Vision 2020 Towards AmBisyon Natin 2040. This will be held at the Citadines Bay City Manila on 30 January 2020.

The start of 2020 marks a clear opportunity for the DOST-PTRI to promote Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) and its other research and technological breakthroughs. Backed by Republic Act 9242 or the Philippine Tropical Fabrics Law, and Proclamation 313 of 2012, DOST-PTRI spearheads the celebration of the PTF month.

As defined in the Law and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, PTF is fabric containing natural textile fibers of abaca, banana, pineapple, and silk. It must be produced, spun, woven or knitted, and finished entirely in the Philippines.

This year’s PTF theme is 2020 and Beyond: Harnessing Philippine Tropical Fabrics in co-creating the future of the Philippine textile industry. It is a call for active partnership in the making of a vibrant future for sustainable and globally competitive Philippine textile industry.

The Conference will put forward DOST-PTRI’s accomplishments in line with the Textiles S&T Roadmap such as the establishment of the RYPIC or a regionalized yarn production facility to reduce the supply gap of yarns, among others. It will be attended by notable resource speakers and collaborators from various government agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry which will present the Textile-Garment Industry Roadmap.

To encourage textile innovations, DOST-PTRI will pitch ideas to stakeholders and a roster of different funding agencies from the DOST will share funding opportunities for aspiring innovators both in the academe and industry.

Invited technopreneurs that have made good use of the Institute’s technologies will share their experience in harnessing S&T innovations for their respective businesses.

DOST-PTRI has a 20/20 vision of enabling the textile industry through the use of science, technology, and innovation. Afterall, TELA is Textiles Empowering Lives Anew.

This event is by invitation and has limited slots. Should you wish to be invited, email us at [email protected]
