MANILA – Amid concerns on the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will postpone "Handa Pilipinas", a showcase of innovation in disaster risk reduction (DRR), originally scheduled on March 12-14 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.

In an advisory, the DOST said the postponement was due to President Rodrigo Duterte's declaration of a public health emergency and the Department of Health (DOH) advisory raising the Covid-19 Alert System to Code Red (Sub-level 1), a preemptive call to ensure that national and local governments and public and private health care providers can prepare for possible increase in suspected and confirmed cases.

DOST organized the expo to showcase its attached-agencies' technologies, inventions, and initiatives on disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).

With the theme, “Science for the People: Safer, Adaptive and Prepared Filipino Communities toward Sustainable Development,” the expo aims to raise awareness of the existing disaster risks and environmental issues that could pose danger to humanity.

Exhibits and forum to be participated by disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) officers from various government agencies are included in the expo.

The Philippines has a total of 33 confirmed cases of Covid-19 as of Tuesday. (PNA)
