5 PJS articles garner Outstanding Scientific Paper Award

The National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST PHH) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has conferred this year’s Outstanding Scientific Paper (OSP) Award to eight locally-published journal articles, five of which are found in the recent issues of the Philippine Journal of Science (PJS).

PJS is the oldest peer-reviewed scientific journal in the Philippines with its first issue published in 1906.Its publication is being managed by the Science and Technology Information Institute (STII) of the DOST.

The paper of Jean Meir Jardeleza, Charlotte Kendra Gotangco, and Maria Aileen Leah Guzman entitled "Simulating National-scale Deforestation in the Philippines Using Land Cover Change Models by Jardeleza" was published in PJS's December 2019 issue.

Appearing in the October 2020 issue is the paper of Darlon V. Lantican, Cris Q. Cortaga, Anand Noel C. Manohar, Fe M. de la Cueva, and Maria Luz J. Sison entitled "Resistance Gene Analogs of Mango: Insights on Molecular Defenses and Evolutionary Dynamics."

Also highlighting the issue is the paper of Bernhard Egwolf and Nicanor Austriaco entitled "Mobility-guided Modeling of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Metro Manila."

Furthermore, the December 2020 issue showcases the paper of Maria Luz J. Sison, Cris Q. Cortaga, Ana Kristine S. Barcos, Nińo R. Laurel, John Marty C. Mateo, and Fe M. de la Cueva entitled "Resistance Screening and Influence of Fruit Physico-biochemical Properties of Carabao and Other Mango Varieties against Oriental Fruit Fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Diptera: Tephritidae) in the Philippines."

Likewise, featured in the said issue is the paper of Gabriel Phillip Ragudo, Beatriz SonethPureza, Denise Anne Rimando, Mikael Remus Manrique, Teresa Sy Ortin, Kin Israel Notarte, and Pia Marie Albano entitled "RAD51 135G>C Single Nucleotide Polymorphism and Risk of Breast Cancer in Selected Filipino Cases."

The OSP Award is given yearly to "papers with quality content and significant contribution to science and technology" that were published in journals listed in Thompson Reuters or SCOPUS, two of the most popular scientific citation databases worldwide.
