PRESS RELEASE

The good economic prospects of mushroom farming prompted the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) Batangasto conduct a benchmarking session for the benefit of the Toong Community Mushroom Growers in Tuy, Batangas last 11 May 2021.

Atty. Ruby Gonzales, owner of the well-established 3G Country Farms, a mushroom farm located at Barangay Aga in Nasugbu, Batangas, unselfishly shared her knowledge and experience in mushroom growing. Atty. Gonzales first showed a video of the 3G Country Farms to let the participants see the facilities and how the farm operates in general.

Moving forward, Atty. Gonzales mentioned their standard composition in the preparation of fruiting bags to generate greater yield including the spawning and pasteurization procedures. The discussion, done in an interview format, helped the association members recognize the gaps in their existing practices as referred to as the standard mushroom farming practices of 3G Country Farms. Before the end of her presentation, Atty. Gonzales left the community with the challenge for them to multiply their production and to continue working hard to achieve better results. Thus, she reminded them to “Start Small but Think Big!”

For their part, members of the Toong Community Mushroom Growers promised to work hard to increase their production and improve their processes. They have also extended their gratitude to 3G Country Farms and to the DOST for making the benchmarking activity happen despite the limitation of their internet connection and the current pandemic.

Meanwhile, Felina C. Malabanan, provincial director of PSTC-Batangas, mentioned that the engagement will serveas a good springboard to improve the current processes of Toong Community Mushroom Growers and integrate applicable farming practices of 3G Country Farms.

On the other hand, Gerardo Mercado, TESDA Batangas’ provincial director, emphasized the importance of the activity in expanding the appreciation of the community association towards sustaining and advancing their mushroom farming enterprise. Mercado shared his appreciation to the DOST together with Aiza Gomez and Emerita Delima, both from the Local Government Unit of Tuy, who were also present during the activity.

Toong Community Mushroom Growers is an association formed under the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
