DOST 1 ORGANIZES FIRST VIRTUAL SEMINAR ON JOB HUNTING STRATEGIES FOR GRADUATING SCHOLARS IN REGION 1

The Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), through DOST Region 1, conducted the 2021 Seminar on Job Hunting Strategies / Employment Generation for the DOST-SEI graduating scholars on March 12, 2021 via Microsoft Teams. The said seminar was in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment Region 1 (DOLE 1), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Region 1 (TESDA 1) and the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU).

The job-hunting seminar entitled, “Maneuvering the Employment Search during the Pandemic”, was one of the lined-up programs and activities prepared by the DOST 1 Scholarship Unit for the 37 DOST-SEI scholars who are expected to graduate. Of the 37 graduating scholars, 31 actively participated with Pangasinan boasting the biggest delegation.

Topics and activities included in this year’s seminar highlighted strategies on actual job search appropriate in this new normal. The topics discussed were the following: Coping with the Pandemic (From Uncertain to Certain: Marketing Myself during the New Normal, Navigating the World of Work in the New Normal: A Fresh Graduate Experience and TESDA Lifelong Skills: Skills to Succeed.

On the other hand, two scholars underwent virtual panel interview with panelists headed by the DOST 1 Regional Scholarship Coordinator, Ms. Adelisa C. Florendo, Ms. Elizabeth Marfel Gagni of MMSU, Mr. Frederick Gaerlan of DOLE 1 and Ms. Evelyn Ramos of TESDA 1. During the interview, a taste of the actual job search was experienced by the scholars. The activity gave them the actual experience of virtual interview and confidence to face the job market during this time of pandemic.

The seminar aimed at preparing the graduating scholars to be employment-ready to easily surpass the challenges, most especially during this trying time, of limited employment generators and drastic change in the world of business. The scholars are expected to apply the learnings and values shared by the speakers during the seminar. Moreover, all graduating scholars will be included in the pool of manpower that will serve the nation with professionalism, great leadership and honest service to the Filipino people.
